Rumery's Boat Yard has been awarded a BOATING INFRASTRUCTURE GRANT (BIG) by the Maine Department of Transportation and the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The grant will fund the construction of 22 slips for boaters to spend a few days visiting Biddeford's & Saco's downtown. Reserved for boats of 26 feet in length or greater, there will also be a pump-out station and a building with showers, toilets and laundry facilities. Each slip will have a 30 Amp shorepower connection and potable water. Slips are in deep water, six - ten feet at low tide. Tie-ups are restricted to ten days under the terms of the US Fish & Wildlife Service agreement.
Rumery's applied for the State & Federal grant program, offered annually, and was elected as the recipient in December 2015. Construction is expected to begin in mid-summer 2016 and be completed by July of 2017. The project is contingent upon receiving permits from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Maine DEP, Saco River Corridor Commission, City of Biddeford, Biddeford's Harbor Commission and other State & Federal agencies.
Funding for this project is from the following sources:
US Fish & Wildlife Service SPORT FISH RESTORATION AND BOATING TRUST FUND, supported by a small tax on boating fuels and certain fishing and boating equipment. $215,000
