There are substantial differences between
these two boats, given their common heritage. The original
Alerion (Herreshoff's) was first gaff rigged then later
a gunter rig was installed, both foreward of the cabin and
with long booms - no backstay. She was always a ballasted
centerboard design.
The sophisticated reader knows the differences
that matter.
